American National University has maintained institutional accreditation for over 60 years — assurance that our degrees meet tested standards recognized by employers, government agencies, and other institutions.
Institutional accreditation
American National University is accredited by two nationally recognized entities — DEAC for American National University of Virginia and ABHES for American National University of Kentucky. Both are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Career and occupation focused
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation makes no qualitative distinction between regional and national accreditors, and states that transfer decisions should not be made solely on the source of a sending institution's accreditation.

Virginia campuses
State Council of Higher Education for Virginia
American National University is authorized by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia to provide educational programs beyond secondary education in the Commonwealth of Virginia; however, the institution is not subject to the requirements of certification by the Council.
Tennessee campuses
Tennessee Higher Education Commission
The Nashville campus is authorized for operation by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, 404 James Robertson Parkway, Suite 1900, Nashville, TN 37243 · (615) 741-3605. Authorization is renewed each year based on minimum standards for quality of education, ethical business practices, health and safety, and fiscal responsibility.
Kentucky campuses
Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education
American National University is licensed by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education to offer all programs at Louisville and Pikeville. ANU Online is also licensed by the Council to offer online degrees.
